The loveliest time at Liuzza's! After a walk through the park, we headed to Liuzza's for lunch. This small neighborhood spot offers great quality NOLA favorites. Our server, Kaysee, was an absolute sweetheart and provided the best service! We ordered the fried green tomatoes and bbq shrimp po'boy. Kaysee brought us out a little of the crawfish etouffee to try because she recommended dipping our fried green tomatoes into it. So good! Everything was tasty and delicious. Definitely a worthwhile place to stop by for both the food and the service.
We ordered the bbq shrimp sandwich & the shrimp po boy. I loved both sandwiches! The best one was definitely the bbq shrimp! The service was great. Our server was super sweet & you can tell she loved her job because while it was busy, she was hustling & pretty much one of the only servers on the floor.
I loved the food at Luizza's, which offers both traditional and unique NOLA dishes with hearty portions and robust flavors. The seating inside is limited, and it's a popular lunch spot, so expect to wait outside for a while before getting seated. The prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, and the service is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The BBQ shrimp po' boy is unique--hollowed-out bread soaked in a flavorful, soupy sauce, topped with tender sautéed shrimp. It was delicious. The bread was heavenly when soaked in the sauce. And, of course, the creole gumbo was a delicious classic. Highly recommend!
Super tasty bloody Mary's with picketed okra and string beans and olives. Enjoyed these a few mornings in a row before Jazz Fest. It appears to be a thing!
I loved this restaurant. The ambience was great; very retro. I ordered the 1/2 Meat PoBoy with a cup of gumbo. I had a chicken poboy. The sandwich and the gumbo was delicious. The service was very friendly.
We were welcomed even we made it nick of time before closing. We ordered Special Fried Oysters, Shrimps & Beignet and Sandwich/Soup (Shrimp Po'Boy and Gumbo). Blue Hurricanes! Did not disappoint. Cozy interior dining!
4.5 stars! A homey restaurant located in a residential neighborhood and a few other restaurants. I came in on a weekday lunch and they were full. Although they have other tempting items on the menu in terms of po'boys, I got the bbq shrimp one as it is their signature dish. Surprisingly enough, it's actually not bbq sauce but their own concoction of this thick peppery, garlicky, and buttery sauce that you would want to finish clean with the baguette. The serving was enormous for one person! It came in piping hot, fragrant, and it was definitely delicious. If you're skeptic about sautéed shrimp for your po'boys instead of deep fried like I was, this was such a good risk I happy I took. The shrimp was buttery, soft, & perfectly cooked. The dish cost about $18 and I highly recommend.
Overall Thoughts: I loved the food at Luizza's, which serves both traditional and unique NOLA dishes with hearty portions and robust flavors. There's limited seating inside and it's a popular spot especially for lunch, so expect to wait outside for awhile before getting seated. Make sure to stay close by the restaurant though, as the staff don't take down your number and instead just go outside and call your name when you're up. Our wait was ~20-30 minutes. Overall, the prices are reasonable for the portions and quality, and the service is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Note there's a 2% surcharge on cards. Food I tried: - Oyster Seafood Plate (3.9/5): Didn't love this dish-- the fried oysters weren't great and only masked the taste of the natural oyster. The coleslaw was really delicious and flavorful though, and the fries were crispy. - BBQ Shrimp Po Boy (4.5/5): This po boy is unique, nothing that I've had before. It's not a traditional po boy sandwich but instead a hollowed out piece of bread soaked in a soupy sauce and covered with a bunch of sautéed shrimp. I felt that the sauce and shrimp were overly salty, but delicious nonetheless and perfectly tender. The bread was heavenly when soaked in the soup. - Crawfish Etouffe (4.6/5): This was one of my favorite dishes-- it was delicious with deep, robust, and balanced flavor. - Shrimp Po Boy (4.5/5): This one was more of a traditional po boy and was also really good. The bread was perfectly light and flakey. The fried shrimp provided a crisp crunch on the outside with a tender, juicy inside. The ratio of mayo and other ingredients was perfect. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Food: 4.4/5 Ambience: 4.6/5 Service: 4.8/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5
